At the St Paul Farmers Market

We are at the Downtown St. Paul Farmers Market on Saturdays and Sundays from the last weekend in April through early to mid July. Saturday hours are 6 am to 1 pm. Sunday hours are 8 am to 1 pm. The Vagary stall is located near the top end of the center shed. Look for the big gray truck with two red stripes.


If you are looking for a particular plant or group of plants from our Plant List you are welcome to contact us via email at to inquire about availability. We will be happy to respond to a special request and hold the plants for you at market on the day you plan to pick them up. We pride ourselves in providing personal service. However, because we are quite busy preparing for Saturday and Sunday market on Friday, we will need to hear from you by Thursday to be able to respond for the coming weekend.

Our Market is known as one of the best and most authentic markets in the country. In addition to an excellent selection plant venders one can find local produce in season and an assortment of specialty products.

Memorial Day Plant Sale

We do not operate a retail store at home. However, we do have a Memorial Day Plant Sale at our home each spring on Memorial Day (Monday) from 9 am to 3 pm.

A drive to the Vagary takes less than 40 minutes from downtown St Paul and makes for an enjoyable excursion. Shopping one of our sales also lets you meet and share ideas with like-minded fellow gardeners. Our Memorial Day sale offers the widest variety of plants available from us during the peak planting season and attractive discount pricing.

Special Orders

We do not mail plants or sell plants on line. We enjoy meeting our customers in person, at the St Paul Farmers Market or at our Memorial Day Plant Sale.

For larger quantities we offer custom growing services. We accept special orders for most of the plants we offer in 3½ inch (18 per tray) or larger pots. Some plants are available as plugs (72 per tray). Because we are a small business, we will give your special order personal attention. However, we generally need some lead time to prepare a special order.

Special orders placed in early spring when availability is good can often be filled immediately. As the season progresses availability for special orders becomes limited, and delivery may require significant lead time. Special orders for late summer or fall delivery are generally limited to those varieties that can be grown during the summer.

Unexpected crop failures sometimes affect the varieties of plants we bring to market, and can also affect our ability to fill special orders.

Special orders generally require a minimum purchase of $100. Orders can be picked up at the Vagary by special arrangement or at the St. Paul Farmers Market on market days. Delivery in the Twin Cities area can be arranged for a small additional charge.
